At Safety First for Girls (SAFIGI), our mission is clear:
“Give girls the tools to regain and retain power and autonomy to solve their safety concerns in dignity, thereby making systemic patriarchal and ineffective middlemen obsolete.”
To support this, we've created a detailed Resource List of Organizations across the SADC region. This list provides girls with easier access to organizations in their home countries dedicated to promoting holistic safety, empowerment, and protection. The resource list shows the name of the organization, the services they provide, contact address, location, and their thematic focus.
Why This Resource List Matters
In the SADC region, girls face a range of intersecting challenges from limited access to education and healthcare to issues around body safety, mental health, and gender-based violence. For girls with disabilities, these challenges are often compounded by stigma and inaccessibility. Holistic safety means recognizing all aspects of a girl’s well-being and providing resources that address these layers comprehensively. We believe this list will:
Amplify the Reach of Local Organizations: Each organization we’ve listed is doing critical work that deserves recognition and support. By sharing these resources with SAFIGI’s community, we aim to help girls become aware of and connect with organizations already dedicated to helping in their local areas.
Create Networks of Support: We envision this list as more than just a directory; it’s a bridge between like-minded organizations, communities, and advocates, creating a powerful network for shared learning, support, and advocacy.
Empower Girls and Advocates to Seek Help: By mapping out the organizations across each SADC country, girls, families, and advocates can more easily find local support, fostering a safer environment for everyone.
How You Can Use and Contribute to the Resource List
We invite you to explore and share our resource list within your community. If you’re an advocate, educator, or social worker, consider using this directory as a tool to connect with organizations working toward similar goals. Here’s how you can contribute to the impact of the resource list:
Share the Resource: The first step is spreading the word. Share this list on social media, with community groups, or among colleagues. The more visibility, the stronger our collective impact.
Suggest Additions: We know there are more organizations out there doing phenomenal work. If you know of an organization that should be on our list, please reach out to us with their details and a brief description of their work.
Collaborate with Us: SAFIGI is always open to partnerships that can enhance the safety and well-being of girls in the region. Don't hesitate to reach out if you represent an organization and would like to collaborate on projects or events.
Advocate for Holistic Safety in Your Community: Every effort makes a big difference. By engaging with local leaders, schools, and families, you can advocate for policies and practices that protect and empower girls.
Moving Forward Together
As we work to make holistic safety a reality for all girls across the globe, this resource list is just one of many tools we’re proud to share. It represents not only the dedication of SAFIGI but the resilience and determination of organizations across the region striving to make the world a safer, more inclusive space for every girl.
Together, let’s champion holistic safety, expand networks of support, and ensure every girl has the resources and protection she needs to thrive.
